Welcome to Part 1 of our 3-part complete restoration of this incredible antique table. This is a seriously impressive piece of furniture — from the striking figured top to the beautifully carved base and incredible craftsmanship underneath. 🇸🇪 FROM A FORGOTTEN BASEMENT IN SWEDEN… TO OUR RESTORATION WORKSHOP IN THE UK! 🇬🇧 Dirty, tired and desperately in need of attention, it eventually made the journey from Sweden to the UK. Now the question is… CAN WE BRING IT BACK TO LIFE? 🔨 In this restoration series, we&apos;ll take you through the whole journey — the problems we discover, the repairs, the craftsmanship and ultimately the transformation. But we want YOU involved too. 👇 What would you do with this table? Would you completely restore it? Would you preserve every mark and sign of age? Would you change the colour? Or would you have left it exactly as we found it? Tell us in the comments — we genuinely want to hear your opinions. And here&apos;s another question: 🇸🇪 What do you think of Scandinavian furniture from this period? For us, this table is a fantastic example of Scandinavian design — beautiful proportions, wonderful walnut and craftsmanship that deserves to survive for another hundred years. Follow the journey as this forgotten piece travels from a basement in Halmstad, Sweden, to our workshop in the UK and hopefully becomes something beautiful again. 👍 PLEASE LIKE the video if you want to see more restorations like this. 🔔 SUBSCRIBE to @AntiqueRepairShop and join us on our new YouTube journey. Your comments, suggestions and ideas will help decide which projects we tackle next. Forgotten in Sweden. Discovered again. Brought to Britain. That&apos;s all that really matters. ❤️ Now we can talk about what happened… because this was definitely NOT the Sunday morning we were expecting! 😂 🚗💥 A CAR CRASHED INTO OUR BUILDING! Early on a quiet Sunday morning, I received a call from the police informing me that a car had hit our building. Not exactly the phone call you expect with your morning coffee! But here&apos;s the bit we&apos;d genuinely like your opinion on: ❓ Why would it take so long for my insurance company to win this claim? ❓ Why would the car&apos;s insurance provider argue the claim at all? We didn&apos;t exactly have a shortage of evidence… We caught the accident on SIX different CCTV cameras — WITH SOUND! 🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥 We supplied the footage, the car was quite clearly there, the building was quite clearly there… and somehow the two had become VERY well acquainted. 😂 And then came the explanation… Apparently, the driver sneezed! 🤧 That must have been one SERIOUS sneeze! What followed was around six months of dealing with the insurance claim. We&apos;re antique restorers, not insurance experts, so we&apos;d genuinely love to hear from anyone who understands how these claims work. 👇 Why do you think something caught so clearly on CCTV could take so long to resolve? Let us know in the comments — we&apos;re interested to hear your views! In Part 1, we introduced the table and began uncovering just how much work was hiding beneath the surface. Now in Part 2, we&apos;re getting into the difficult stuff. Years of age, damage and deterioration have taken their toll, and restoring a piece like this isn&apos;t simply a case of sanding it down and making it shiny again. The challenge is to repair what needs repairing while preserving the original craftsmanship, walnut, character and history of the table. And sometimes that means making decisions where there isn&apos;t an obvious right answer. 👇 So we want YOU involved. How far would you go with this restoration? Would you try to make it look almost new again, or would you deliberately leave some of its 100-year-old scars and imperfections? Let us know in the comments — we&apos;d genuinely like to hear what you would do. And there&apos;s still plenty more to come… 👉 PART 1: Where the journey began 👉 PART 2: The difficult restoration work 👉 PART 3: The completion and FINAL REVEAL Will this forgotten Swedish table become the beautiful piece of Scandinavian design it once was? When this Scandinavian Mid-Century Elm and Burr Low Open Bookcase arrived at our workshop, there was one thing we simply couldn&apos;t understand — the entire top had been covered with a very thick layer of black paint. 🤔 What was underneath it? And perhaps more importantly… why had somebody painted it black in the first place? 🛠️ In this video, we explain what we think needs to be done before getting to work. The black coating proved considerably harder to remove than we expected. It took a lot of careful stripping and preparation, as we didn&apos;t want to damage the original timber hiding underneath. Slowly, the black disappeared and the original wood began to reveal itself… 🪵✨ And what a difference! After all that work, we were finally able to bring the top back to its original natural wood finish, allowing it to sit beautifully alongside the wonderful elm and decorative burr figuring of the rest of the bookcase. ✨ From thick black paint → back to beautiful original timber. This is exactly why we enjoy restoring antique and vintage furniture. Sometimes you simply don&apos;t know what you&apos;re going to discover until you start removing decades of alterations. 💬 Would you have stripped the black top, or would you have left it as part of the bookcase&apos;s history? Tell us in the comments — we&apos;d genuinely like to know what you would have done. 👍 If you enjoy seeing furniture brought back to life, please LIKE the video and SUBSCRIBE to @AntiqueRepairShop 🔔 for more antique and vintage furniture restorations, workshop projects, unusual discoveries and transformations. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🪑 SCANDINAVIAN MID CENTURY ELM AND BURR LOW OPEN BOOKCASE 🔨 #FurnitureRestoration #AntiqueRestoration #AntiqueFurniture #FurnitureRepair #Woodworking #FurnitureMakeover #RestoringFurniture #TraditionalWoodworking</video:description><video:player_loc allow_embed="yes">https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/6TnFV-V1FpY</video:player_loc><video:publication_date>2026-09-02T15:39:21.000Z</video:publication_date></video:video></url><url><loc>https://antiquerepairshop.com/videos/can-we-save-this-100-year-old-table-should-we-save-it-restoration-part-1-mapy-te0rv4</loc><lastmod>2026-09-17T16:15:53.965Z</lastmod><video:video><video:thumbnail_loc>https://i2.ytimg.com/vi/mAPy-tE0rV4/hqdefault.jpg</video:thumbnail_loc><video:title>Can We Save This 100+ Year Old Table?
