How to Preserve Antique Dolls and Soft Toys

Dolls and toys may combine textile, stuffing, leather, wood, composition, ceramic, glass, hair and paint.

Safe routine care

Support heads and joints, lift from the torso and use a box or stand that does not strain elastic or costume.

What not to do

Do not wash costumes in place, repaint faces or replace stuffing without documentation. Pests and unstable composition materials need specialist attention.

Storage and specialist help

Store away from light and dust, with acid-free padding and enough space for clothing and hair.
