How to Care for Enamelled Metal Objects

Vitreous enamel is glass fused to metal. It can be durable yet brittle, especially where the supporting metal bends or corrodes.

Safe routine care

Lift from the body, not handles, and pad objects so edges cannot strike hard surfaces. Dust with a soft brush.

What not to do

Chips expose metal and can spread. Avoid soaking, acids, ultrasonic cleaners and attempts to fill losses with household resin.

Storage and specialist help

Store dry with individual supports and photograph cracks so change can be monitored.
