Why Accurate Dimensions Matter When Buying Antiques | Antique Repair Shop

Dimensions affect fit, function, transport and sometimes identification. A few centimetres can determine whether furniture clears a stair turn or whether a frame suits its intended wall.

What to do

Ask for height, width and depth at maximum points, plus seat height, knee clearance, door swing, extended table size and removable-part dimensions where relevant.

Before you commit

Confirm whether measurements include handles, cornices, mounts, frames or stands. Request a scale photograph for unusual forms.

Keep the record

Measure the access route as carefully as the final position and give the transporter the same drawing.
